Mites hockey is designed for our youngest players, ages 8 and under, providing them with their first structured hockey experience. In the Morristown Jr. Colonials Mites program, players develop fundamental skating skills, basic hockey techniques, and most importantly – a love for the game that will last a lifetime.

Our program utilizes half-ice hockey, which creates a smaller, age-appropriate playing surface by dividing the rink into cross-ice sections. This proven approach gives players significantly more puck touches, increased engagement in the action, and better opportunities to develop hockey sense. Research shows that players who begin with half-ice hockey demonstrate stronger skating skills, better puck control, and improved awareness compared to those who start on full ice.
